Hey Chris, thanks for doing this. I'm rebuilding the shop's website so it can sell parts online without anyone retyping prices and stock by hand. QBP and J&B already have systems for this. They'll turn it on if the shop asks. So that's the job. Call each one, ask them to turn it on, and get them to email me the setup stuff.
You don't need to know what any of the terms mean. The people at these companies deal with this all day. Read the questions off the list and check them off as you go. The page remembers your checkmarks even if you close it.
If it gets technical
When someone starts asking about software or file formats or anything you don't know, hand it off:
"Could you email all of that to our web developer? It's brayden@webpath.agency."
They email me, and you're off the hook.
Before you dial
Get the shop's QBP account number and J&B account number. They're on any invoice from each company. Ask Mike if you can't find them.
Find somewhere quiet and grab a pen, or just use the notes app on your phone.
If they'll only make changes with Mike on the line, that's fine. Just ask what they need from him and write it down.
One heads up: QBP wants a copy of the shop's insurance certificate for their shipping program. Mike handles that part. You only need to find out where it gets sent.
Call one: QBP
Quality Bicycle Products, the big distributor in Minnesota. If the shop has a sales rep there, ask for them. Otherwise customer service works.
CUSTOMER SERVICE 800-346-0004
Open with: "Hi, I'm calling from The Vault Bicycle Shop in Las Vegas. We're a QBP dealer. We're rebuilding our website and I have a few questions about connecting it to QBP." Then go down the list.
Before you hang up, write down
The name (and extension) of whoever helped you, so we can call them back.
Any prices or fees they mentioned.
What they promised to email, and what address they're sending it to.
Call two: J&B
J&B Importers in Miami. Same idea. Ask for the shop's rep if they have one, otherwise just the main line. If the rep can't answer the file questions, ask for their IT department.
MAIN LINE 800-666-5000
Open with: "Hi, I'm calling from The Vault Bicycle Shop in Las Vegas. We're a J&B dealer. We're rebuilding our website and I have questions about your data feed and dropshipping."
Before you hang up, write down
Who you talked to, and their extension.
Any fees they quoted.
What they're emailing, and what address they're sending it to.
When you're done
Text me how it went, mainly any prices they quoted and anything they said no to. If they email the shop instead of me, forward it here:
brayden@webpath.agency
Both calls together are maybe twenty minutes. I owe you a beer.
